EPL: Day 11, Part 1 (no contest)

Portsmouth were definitely not up to the challenge at Old Trafford and looked every bit like their current table position (11th). The final scoreline (Manchester 3 – Portsmouth 0) was a bit generous, but not that much.

In the same vein, Arsenal were predictably all over Leeds United at Ellan Road, and ended up winning with the same score as they did last year (1-4). It was effectively over after 20 minutes, with two easy goals by (who else?) Thierry Henry and Robert Pires. You simply cannot afford to leave players like Pires unmarked or players like Henry with half an inch of free space. They are deadly.

The interesting results happened elsewhere in the league, with Bolton registering a win at Tottenham and Manchester City squashing Southampton (collective sigh of relief all over England when Robbie Fowler scored his first goal in ages).

It will be interesting to see what Fulham can manage against Liverpool tomorrow, after deservedly beating Manchester United at Old Trafford last week. It’s doubtful that they’ll be able to achieve two amazing performances in a row, but you never know!
