Here’s a bug report I’ve just submitted to Apple:

* SUMMARY
Mail: Problem when quitting while Mail is checking for new email.

* STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Configure Mail so that you have 5 different email accounts or more, that are all checked automatically at regular intervals.
2. Try to quit Mail while the mail checking process is in progress.

* RESULTS
Mail immediately cancels the FIRST FOUR email account checking processes. The cancelling takes a few moments. But then it starts checking the OTHER accounts as if the user had not instructed Mail to quit, and ONLY quits after all email accounts have been checked.

Mail should be smart enough to know that, when the user has chosen to quit Mail, it should not start checking new email accounts. It should cancel the 4 mail checking processes currently in progress, and then quit immediately.

* REGRESSION
You need more than 4 active email accounts.

* NOTES
See profile attached.

I guess Apple don’t test Mail with more than four accounts!
