Drag-and-drop editing doesn’t work in Finder names

Especially now that (very) long file names are allowed in Mac OS X’s Finder, it goes without saying that normal text editing tools should be available when editing a file name as well.
Yet, for some reason, the ability to drag-and-drop a text selection from one location to another within a given file name while editing it is not available. If you double-click on a word in a file name to SELECT it, and try to click-and-hold on the word to drag it somewhere else, it doesn’t work. In fact, “click-and-hold” is not recognized, and is treated as a regular click, which places the cursor where the click occurred.
Here’s hoping that the brand-new Finder in Panther fixes all those small things as well as the more obvious ones.
