FileMaker Developer: Unbelievably Buggy

I’ve just spent the whole week-end working on a series of FileMaker solutions that will be used by end users under Mac OS X to print labels on a Dymo LabelWriter 310.

I am using FileMaker Developer 6.0v3, i.e. the latest version available.

This version suffers from a horrible bug that has been driving me insane for the past several hours. When I try to create a stand-alone solution based on a FileMaker database file, 9 times out of 10 the Developer Tool application “unexpectedly quits” midway through the process.

I have found an article in the Knowledge Base — but the suggested workaround doesn’t work! Even if I trash all my FMD prefs file and use the “Add File…” button exclusively to add files to the solution, the Tool still unexpectedly quits!

It’s taken me a while to find help online, but I have finally found a forum site which seems to be comprehensive. I have even found a thread on this particular topic.

Yet it appears that there is no reliable solution. I have tried to do what some people recommend, i.e. create custom About and Help layouts and the corresponding scripts, as prescribed in the FMD license (even though there is no indication that the unexpected quits are related to the absence of such layouts). To no avail.

The Developer Tool still unexpectedly quits 9 times out of 10. This is driving me insane! I’ve paid over $400 for a product that doesn’t even do the very thing I bought it for reliably. Unbelievable.
