Take a Pages document that contains text formatted using the superscript or subscript option:

Then select said document in the Finder in Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and use the Quick Look feature to peek inside without opening the document:

Oops. The superscript/subscript is in the right place, but not with the correct font size. Instead, it looks like Quick Look renders the text with the same font size as the rest of the body of the document.

Ironically, if you then export that same document as a Microsoft Word document in Pages and apply Quick Look to the resulting Word document in the Finder, you get this:

This time the font size is correct!

Since, as far as I know, the engines used to render Pages documents and Word documents in Quick Look were both designed by Apple, it is rather disappointing to see that Apple’s engineers did not apply the same level of care to the rendering engine for their own Pages file format as to the rendering engine for the third-party Microsoft Word file format.

Oh well. I’ve submitted a bug report. Maybe it’ll get fixed one day.
