Friday’s posts erased by my host

I mentioned last Thursday that my host was having problems with their server hardware and that the site had been unavailable for a time.

What I didn’t know at the time and didn’t realize until now is that the problems were obviously not entirely fixed at the time, because all the items that were posted on Betalogue on the following day (Friday, May 8), including my blog entries and reader comments, were mysteriously removed some time this week-end.

I suspect that this is because at some point my host restored my web directory from a day-old backup without telling me. And I am not particularly impressed. It’s not very professional on their part to do such a thing without letting me know, especially since they are well aware that I have a blog that I update every day.

Anyway, what this all means is that I had to re-post the two blog entries from last Friday (this one and that one), and that they now have different post ID numbers, i.e. different URLs. And some reader comments for these two posts might have been lost. (But I don’t think so.)

I just thought Betalogue readers should know. :)
