Mac OS X: Slow pop-up folder in Dock

I have several folders in the Dock which contain aliases to files that I need to access often. Usually, the contextual pop-up menu displaying the contents of the folder appears instantly after clicking on the folder.

Lately, however, for one particular folder, I’ve noticed that it’s taking Mac OS X several seconds to display the contextual menu, during which I can hear disk activity. After that, if I click on it a second time, it pops up almost instantly again. But later on (after HAVING worked on other stuff), if I go back to the folder and click on it again, I experience the same delay again.

I haven’t noticed it with my other Dock folders. And I haven’t changed the contents of this particular folder recently, so I don’t see why it started causing this delay all of a sudden.

Weird — and slightly annoying.
