Mac OS X: AOL and Aqua

AOL for OS X must be the only application out there that still uses pre-Jaguar Aqua controls such as the “Cancel” button below:

How do they even do it? (After all, Jaguar automatically changed all these controls for every application system-wide.) The only possible explanation: by using a picture of a button instead of an actual button.
