Because of my work, I have had to spend quite a bit of time researching the United Nations web site and it has been, for the most part, a horrific experience.

The presentation of the site has no consistency. There is no way to get a sense of the structure of the thing. And looking for a particular document that is supposed to be publicly available is a nightmare.

For example, just today, I was looking for a report by the Secretary General to the Security Council on the situation in Sierra Leone. I found what I believe is the right page. But when I put the words “Sierra Leone” in the search field, I get an error message saying:

An error was encountered processing your request.

Error 40: Invalid view requested

Uh?
