Mac OS X: Another Mail problem

Every day bring to the fore another problem in Mac OS X’s Mail application.

Today, while receiving yet again a large (1 MB) attachment via my pokey modem connection, I couldn’t help but notice that the progress bar in the “Activity Viewer” window (an indispensable Mail troubleshooting tool if you are on a slow Internet connection) is totally inaccurate and therefore useless.

In effect, the progress bar for receiving the message with the attachment stayed stuck at approximately 10% during the entire downloading process, only to jump to the full 100% and disappear right away once the download was complete.

A small detail, to be sure, but yet another indication that little attention has been paid in Mail to “details” that might affect the computing lives of those with slow Internet connections.
