The G5 Quad is still dead. Apple is sending me a new Mac Pro.
The red LED is back for good this time. Looks like a bad CPU unit to me.
Repair shop swaps the logic board, and the machine is still freezing.
More inconclusive testing, more questions, and no solution.
The configuration of LaunchBar that I use is quite clearly what makes the G5 Quad so slow with only 512 MB of RAM.
It turns out that running with 512 MB can be done after all… The problem clearly lies with third-party utilities.
