Champions League: Kiev 2 – Arsenal 1

So Arsenal lost in Kiev (2-1), and their future in the Champions League is looking very bleak now. They have 1 point out of a possible 9 and are dead last of their GROUP — the only team without a single win.

Now the little bit of good news is that Inter Milan lost 3-0 at Moscow. So that leaves the GROUP somewhat “open”. And let’s not forget Newcastle’s campaign last year, where they lost their first three games and still managed to qualify. But Arsenal are not very likely to repeat that feat. It’s not impossible, but it’ll be very difficult.

Given that Arsenal is top of the EPL and doing pretty well domestically, it’s not exactly crisis time in London. But should they really fail to qualify for the next round of the Champions League, there’s likely to be a lot of pressure on some players (such as Vieira) to consider offers from other teams with more hope in the Champions League. It’s not an appealing prospect for Arsenal supporters.
