Mail in Panther: some good news

Of all the new features and improvements mentioned on Apple’s promo pages about the upcoming Panther, the one that I am most looking forward is possibly the following, in Mail:

Attachment Interface:
Manage attachments directly from message header.

I have yet to see it in action, of course, but if it addresses my problem with archiving attachments separately from their messages (i.e. outside the Mail folder itself), it’ll be very good news indeed.

On the other hand, there is no mention of any improvements in the three-pane interface that would make it easier to manage (move, rename, delete, etc.) mailboxes without viewing their contents. And the screen shot of the new Mail still features the same, unacceptably limited “Search” field.

In other words, I am only moderately optimistic about Mail as a whole. If it doesn’t fix all my major issues, I am afraid I’ll serious consider moving to Mailsmith 2.0 again.
