Betalogue

This is a continuation of what I wrote about yesterday.

If you open a Pages document and then scroll horizontally to the right in order to hide the left margin (which is just a waste of screen real estate), and then resize the window to also hide the right margin (another waste of space), then you can work on your document without having to use a large window width that takes up all kinds of space.

Unfortunately, there are several parts of the Pages interface that keep throwing that horizontal alignment with the left side of the window off-kilter.

One of them is the Find/Replace tool. If you bring up the Find/Replace dialog box and type some text to find and hit the “Find” button, Pages jumps to the location of the found text in the document. This is as expected.

Unfortunately, it also scrolls horizontally to the left or to the right, depending on where the found text is on the line, thereby throwing your alignment off-kilter.

And that is rather irritating, because it effectively means that Pages is not really designed to allow the user to work with the left and right margins hidden.

If you don’t want to spend your time manually readjusting the horizontal alignment of the document within the window, then you’re better off using Pages with its default window width. Unfortunately, this means a huge waste of screen real estate.
