PowerPoint 2004: Replace command doesn’t treat character case the same way as in Word 2004

In Word 2004, when you use the “Replace” command to replace, say, “section” with “part“, if you do not check the “Match case” option, Word will replace things as followed:

  • section will be replaced with part
  • Section will be replaced with Part
  • SECTION will be replaced with PART
  • etc.

It’s handy, because it effectively replaces the word everywhere while matching the combination of lowercase and uppercase in every occurrence.

The trouble is that it’s not the same in PowerPoint 2004. In PowerPoint 2004, if you do the exact same thing, i.e. replace, say, “section” with “part” without checking the “Match case” option, the following happens:

  • section will be replaced with part
  • Section will be replaced with part
  • SECTION will be replaced with part
  • etc.

Why the inconsistency? Because it’s Microsoft.
