Betalogue

I have just started fooling around with GarageBand. It’s fun.

I have version 1.0.1 running.

Yesterday, as I was playing with a music project consisting of a few tracks (4 at the time if my memory serves me well), all of a sudden I got an alert telling me that GarageBand didn’t have enough memory to play all these tracks and warning me of stability issues. (A bit surprising, considering that I had only 4 tracks, and I have 1.5 GB of RAM, with several hundred MB available at any point.)

The interesting thing is that the next dialog box that I got right after I dismissed the alert was a dialog box asking me if I wanted to save my changes. I said “Yes”, GarageBand saved my project, and then promptly crashed.

I must say this is a new behaviour to me. An application that lets you save your data before it crashes! I guess that’s what they call progress… Needless to say, I’d much prefer an application that didn’t crash at all, especially considering that it seems to be able to tell when it’s going to crash. But I guess we’ll have to wait for 2.0 for that!
