iTunes 4 thinks my blank CDs are blank DVDs

Weird problem today. I haven’t burned audio CDs with iTunes in a few weeks, so I don’t know if it’s related to a recent software update.
I created a playlist of AIFF files in iTunes, and clicked on “Burn” to burn a CD of it. I inserted a blank CD in my built-in SuperDrive and… I got an error message telling me that I had inserted a blank DVD and asking me if I wanted to burn a data DVD instead!
I double-checked and the disk that I had inserted was indeed a blank CD. I tried another brand of CD-Rs. Same result.
I tried quitting and restarting iTunes, to no avail. I haven’t tried restarting my entire computer yet… I ended up launching Toast 6 and burning the audio CD with that application instead. At least you can just drag and drop tracks from iTunes to Toast…
But still! What a silly behavior. Bugs, bugs, bugs… Couldn’t find anything about this in Apple’s Knowledge Base, of course.

I’ve run into that, too. When I’m burning a data CD, I ignore the error message and it seems to do the right thing.

Right. I saw later on that if I cancelled the process in iTunes, Mac OS X tried to mount the CD as a blank CD in the Finder and did offer to choose between audio and data… But I suppose I might have been able to circumvent the error with that. Still, it’s too much to ask. This stuff is supposed to work without any such problems.
