A clear sign of FileMaker’s Mac OS X unfriendliness

In Mac OS X, unlike the classic Mac OS, you can easily launch several applications at the same time. You can also launch an application and switch to some other task in another application while the application is launching.

I just tried to do with this FileMaker Pro 6 for Mac OS X. I selected a FileMaker Pro database and opened it, which caused FileMaker to launch. While it was launching, I switched to Safari. A second later, the FileMaker icon was bouncing in the Dock. I switched to FileMaker, figuring there was an error of some kind that required my attention. But there was nothing. As soon as I clicked on the bouncing icon to switch to FileMaker, FileMaker completed the launching process and opened the database I had selected.

No alert message. No dialog box. No justification for this bouncing icon.

And to think that FileMaker is an Apple subsidiary. This is shameful.
