EPL: Day 5, Part 1

Disappointing day from the perspective of Arsenal, who drew at home 1-1 against Portsmouth, while Manchester United won 2-0 at Charlton and closed the gap in the TABLE to a mere point.

It was a day of dubious refereeing decisions again, I’m afraid, with a very harsh penalty call against Portsmouth, and a highly doubtful free kick call against Charlton that led directly to the first goal for Man U. Euell didn’t exactly deserve to be sent off either, which prevented Charlton from recovering.

Neither Man U nor Arsenal were impressive, and Portsmouth definitely deserved at least a point. Arsenal’s second half was better, but they weren’t able to finish anything. I don’t know why Wenger didn’t bring on Wiltord earlier on. He’s in superb form at the moment and deserves to be in the starting line-up.

I certainly hope he’ll be in the line-up next week-end for the massive game at Old Trafford.

Somewhat less interesting games on tomorrow and Monday, and then the Champions’ League starts. In addition, the Women’s World Cup begins next week-end, with Canada in a good position to achieve something. Lots of fixtures in perspective, then!
