Beckham and Ferguson: Uh Oh

Looks like David Beckham is actually HAVING his latest autobiography (!) serialised in UK tabloids the Sun and News of the World. In which he gives his version of the “flying boot” incident after the home loss against Arsenal in the F.A. Cup last Spring.

The only interesting thing about it is that it confirms that both he and Ferguson are complete jerks. There was a time when being a “Sir” meant a certain level of class and restraint. Ferguson certainly doesn’t seem to have either.

As for Beckham, well he’s obviously too full of himself for words. There’s an interesting parallel to be drawn between what happens to young, promising football players when they are recruited and “nursed” by a big club such as Manchester United all the way to international stardom, and what happened to someone like Michael Jackson, who was already a world phenomenon at the age of 12.

The difference between the two is that the level of fitness and health required by a professional sport such as football prevents world-famous players from completely losing face (literally). But they are obviously way too big for their own good. The trouble with Alex Ferguson is that so is he.
