Problems when interrupting Safari

As mentioned earlier today, I am an impatient web user, so I frequently interrupt the page loading in my browser before it’s complete, either by clicking on a link as soon as I can see it, or by clicking on the “Stop” button in the browser’s tool bar.

In Safari, this can cause significant problems in certain situations. Typically, if the user clicks on a link in a page before the page is fully loaded, Safari will interrupt the page loading process and start loading the new page right away.

On the other hand, if I go to the www.amazon.ca home page, wait until the “Search” field on the left-hand side is visible, and type a search request and hit the Return key before the page loading process is complete (there are typically a lot of pictures on that home page, which take a while to load), Safari continues to LOAD the other elements of the page and only processes my search request when the page loading process is complete, which can easily take 1 or 2 minutes!

What makes this even more frustrating is that, if I then click on the “Stop” button to interrupt the process and click on the “Search” button (or hit Return) again, Safari does nothing! It completely fails to process the form. The only solution then is to force a reload of the entire page, and do things in the “right” order, i.e.:

  1. wait until the search field appears
  2. click on “Stop” to interrupt the page loading process
  3. type the search request
  4. press Return (or hit the “Search” button, or whatever is visible at this stage in that area)

I frequently forget to do things in this order, however, and I am constantly forced to reload the home page and type in my request again.
