Microsoft, those masters of simplicity, have just come up with a new scheme for selling Office 2003 (for Windows), which will include no less than six different versions of the product.

Microsoft Divvies Up Office 2003 Editions” by Thor Olavsrud, Internetnews

Of particular interest is the difference between Office Standard 2003 and Office Student and Teacher 2003 Edition:

Office Standard 2003, available in the retail channel as well as all volume licenses, will be stripped down to include Outlook 2003, Word 2003, Excel 2003 and PowerPoint 2003.

Finally, Student and Teacher 2003 Edition, available through the retail and academic channels, will include Word 2003, Excel 2003, Outlook 2003, and PowerPoint 2003.

I must admit this is just too subtle for me. Can’t wait to see what the MacBU has cooked up for us Mac users!

In you April 04, 2003 article you found out that there will be new MS Office editions, 6 of them to be percise. Did you find out or can you find out what the difference is between the MS Office 2003 standard edition and MS Office Student and Teacher edition other than the price and one is used for students and teachers and the other one to everyone else. If you have that information or know someone who does, please let me know. Thanks.

P.S. I’ve seen the back of the Student/Teacher edition and it states that the buyer must be a full or part time student or a licence teacher. But that really doesn’t explain why the S & T edition is only $149 and the standard edition is $300. WHY???!!!
