Truth Be Told

Paul Krugman’s “Threat, Promises and Lies” pretty much sums up my own sentiment as well as the sentiment of the vast majority of people with whom I have discussed the issue of the current US administration.

We are all used to politicians lying. But, once again, in typical fashion, the US has managed to do it on such a grand scale that they have easily saturated our capacity to accept it and live with it.

The scary part is that I honestly don’t think there’s any way back. There is just no way that the current administration, whatever it does, whatever the outcome of the current Iraq crisis turns out to be, will be able to restore the trust & credibility that the country needs as a major player on the international scene.

There will be no such thing as a “victory” in Iraq. US spin doctors will work overtime on this, but it just won’t happen — not outside the US anyway.

The world has just taken a big step back, courtesy of Mr. Bush and the American people he claims to be representing. And it’s getting worse by the day.

At this point the world is owed a major apology from Mr. Bush and his entourage for all the threats, lies, and promises unfulfilled — as well as a major change in their chosen course of action. If it doesn’t happen (and it doesn’t look like it will), then… Who knows what will. Whatever does happen won’t be pretty.
