Slate and their “print-ready” format

Trying to read an article on Slate this morning… As usual, whenever it’s available, I click on the option to display the article in “print-ready” format, so that I can easily save it as a PDF file if needed (and also to reduce screen clutter).

What do I get from Slate when I click on the “Print” button? I get this:

Slate Print Ready

Hello, Slate! The “Print” command shortcut is not “ctrl-P” on every computer in this world.

Oh, Slate is owned by Microsoft. What was I thinking?

(Also, whether it’s “ctrl-P” or “cmd-P”, I definitely do not need to be told through a modal dialog box each and every time I want to access a page in print-ready format. It really is amazing and discouraging that people are still making such bad design decisions in 2003…)
