Mac OS X 10.2.6 Combo on top of Mac OS X 10.2.6

Further to what I wrote last week on the subject, I decided to download the Combo updater and try to apply it to my system that had already been updated using the 10.2.5-to-10.2.6 updater.

I keep reading that the Combo updaters are “better” than the incremental updaters, so I figured I should give this one a try. Of course, I already run 10.2.6, so I expected the Combo updater to just tell me that my system was already up-to-date. To my surprise, it didn’t say anything and proceeded with the update.

Of course, I checked various things afterwards, and didn’t notice any difference. In particular, even though the Combo updater page claims that there are improvements to Mail, the version of Mail that I have in my “Applications” folder after applying the updater is still 1.2.5 and has a modified date of November 8, 2002.

Oh well. I tried. (I am not going to erase my entire system partition, reinstall 10.2.0, and apply the 10.2.6 Combo updater on top of it, just to see if the result is any different.)

I just wish things were clearer and I didn’t have any reasons to think that my system might not be as up-to-date as it should/could be.

Then again, it’s pretty reliable these days, so I should probably just leave it at that.

I wonder if there’ll be a 10.2.7 UPDATE before 10.3 comes out in the fall…
