Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard): Accidental Caps Lock Defense not gone for everyone

Since I wrote about the apparent disappearance of the Accidental Caps Lock Defense on my system following the Mac OS X 10.6 upgrade, I have received several e-mails from readers indicating that the feature still works on their machine, even with Snow Leopard running.

Two of these e-mails come from people with MacBooks, i.e. with built-in keyboards. Others didn’t specify which type of keyboard they were using.

All I can say is this. On my brand-new Mac Pro with a brand-new wired aluminium keyboard (with numpad), the feature no longer works. Software Update does not indicate that I need a firmware update for my keyboard.

And I can also reproduce the same problem with the two-year old aluminium keyboard I bought for my older Mac Pro back in 2007, with which the feature was definitely working prior to my switch to Mac OS X 10.6.

This happens whether I connect the keyboard directly to the Mac Pro or to a USB hub.

There is probably more to this problem than the Snow Leopard upgrade, since other people have not noticed any change, but it does not make it any less real on my own machine, where the feature is definitely not working anymore.
