Betalogue

This is just shameful. I’ve just downloaded the (humongous) FileMaker Pro 8 trial version, installed it, and opened one of my existing FileMaker Pro 7 files with it.

The first thing I tried was to bring up one of FileMaker Pro 8’s dialog box, and try to use the keyboard to jump from control to control. I have Full Keyboard Access on, and I fully expect all my Mac OS X applications to support this.

In other words, when I am in a dialog box such as FileMaker’s “ScriptMaker” (command-shift-S), I fully expect to be able to use the Tab key to switch the focus from one button to the next, and the Space bar to activate the button on which the focus is.

However, FileMaker Pro 8, like its predecessor FileMaker Pro 7, still doesn’t support this. Incredible but true!

The message from FileMaker — a fully-owned Apple subsidiary — is quite clear: We don’t give a hoot about Mac users. And if you are a Mac user with a repetitive stress injury (RSI) who tries to avoid using the mouse as much as possible in order to prevent his injury from getting worse, tough shit.

Shameful. There’s no other word for it.
