I’ve already mentioned non-sensical behaviours in Word 2004 when it comes to text selection and automatic tables of contents. Here is more.
Create a new Word document. Type a few paragraphs of text and apply the Heading 1 style to some of them. Go to the “” menu and insert an automatic table of contents, which will refer to these headings styled with the Heading 1 style.
Now take your cursor to the left margin of the document and click once on the margin next to the paragraph that comes immediately after the automatic table of contents.
This is supposed to cause Word to simply select the paragraph in question.
Instead, what does Word do? It selects the paragraph in question… and the entire table of contents as well.
This makes no sense whatsoever.
