Dave Hyatt’s redesign

I am pleased to report that Surfin’ Safari, the weblog of Safari developer Dave Hyatt, has been redesigned.

Given the glaring problems with the previous design when viewed in Safari, this is good news. Then again, they seem to have eliminated the problem by removing the calendar altogether :).

The cool thing is that you can switch between different looks for the weblog with a single click. It might be a case of “too much choice” for some people, and it might require a higher level of web site maintenance (depending on the actual contents of your page, you might have to test the different looks frequently in order to make sure that everything looks fine in all styles) — but I think the principle is good.

Another piece of good news is that Dave claims that some of the caching issues in Safari have been fixed. In my case, the pictures used by the pMachine control panel are reloaded by Safari far too often. (They never ever change.) I hope this will be fixed in the next publicly available version of Safari.
