Mac OS X 10.2.8 is out

Apple made the latest Jaguar update available (a 40 MB download) via Software UPDATE last night.

Unless you bought a new Mac very recently, you don’t have Mac OS X 10.2.7, which was never released online and is only for these new machines.

As usual, it’s probably recommended to wait a few days and make sure that the new system UPDATE does not introduce any major problems. It might also be a good idea to wait until Apple releases the “Combo Updater” that can UPDATE any flavor of Mac OS X 10.2.x to 10.2.8. It’ll be a much larger download, but past experience indicates that combo updaters are sometimes more reliable, for some strange reason.

(Regarding the Apple web site, I cannot understand why Apple always releases the information sheets on the updaters before the updaters themselves are actually available on the Software Downloads page. They do this every time. Frustrating.)

Forty megabytes is not a small download by any stretch of the imagination anyway. I, for one, won’t be able to give it a try until tomorrow at the earliest.

Geez, you’d think they could update their Software Downloads page then!
