EPL: Day 3, Part 1

That was fun… Manchester City beat Blackburn Rovers 3-2 on their home turf, with an amazing 40-yard free kick by Michael Tarnat, a great goal by Joey Barton, and a hilarious last-gap winner by Anelka, who shot from a seemingly impossible angle through the legs of the man who was easily the best keeper in the Premiership last year, Brad Friedel.

Definitely worth watching, even if defensive errors played a big part. I know they say that the level of EPL defences is poor compared to other leagues — but in the several Champions League games that I watched last year, I saw little confirmation of this. Defences have their ups and downs and that’s part of what makes the sport fun to watch.

Besides, you could always argue that every goal conceded is an error by the defence… Who decides which goals were impossible to prevent and which were so?
