Word X: More problems with Find/Replace dialog

A while ago, I wrote about keyboard shortcuts not working reliably in Word X’s “Find/Replace” window. Sometimes they do work as expected, sometimes nothing works: Return doesn’t press the “Find” button, cmd-A does not “Replace All”, esc does not “Cancel”, and tab does not switch between the “Find” and the “Replace” fields.

I have no idea what causes this. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. It’s very frustrating.

What is worse is that, when it doesn’t work right, it is also impossible to use the “Find/Replace” window for more than one search. For example, if I search for “hello” in my Word document using the dialog, find an occurrence, and if then, while the “Find/Replace” window is still open, I go back to the “Find” field and type “goodbye” and hit the “Find” button, Word still continues to SHOW found occurrences of “hello”!

The only way to work around this bug is to close the “Find/Replace” window and open it again. And it seems that this problem and the problem with the keyboard shortcuts that do not work occur concurrently.

Needless to say, it’s a problem that constantly gets in the way. And I don’t see any signs that Microsoft is going to release another bug fix UPDATE for Office X. Do you?

(I suppose that it could be, in theory, a conflict with another third-party utility program, of which I use quite a few, but I have yet to be able to identify one of them as the culprit.)
