By that time…

The “Longhorn” version of Windows whose feature set reads so much like a carbon copy of Mac OS X will not be available until late 2004 or early 2005.

By that time, Mac OS X will already be a couple of generations ahead. Windows advocates might claim that you actually need to see the product in action to understand what it does, but the way that they are describing the feature set now does not indicate anything beyond the level of innovation already provided by Mac OS X in its current incarnation.

Maybe instead of immediately bashing Mac OS X users for not understanding what the fuss is all about, they could try to make a more conscious effort to actually describe what it is that is so great about Longhorn…

And then on the hardware side of things it’s the exact same story with the “Athens” prototype by Microsoft and HP.

As far as I can tell, the Windows world will always play catch up, and not even do that all that well. Think about it: After all these years, there are still so many aspects of the current Windows XP interface that are so user-hostile… Do you really think that they will ever get it right? Not in our digital lifetime by the looks of it!
