Office X: Inconsistency in Office/Finder synchronization

In Word X, if you have a Word document open, and you go to the Finder and rename it, when you go back to work and edit the document, the next time you save it, Word automatically detects that you’ve changed the name of the document in the Finder and updates the name in the title bar accordingly. Cool.

No such luck in Excel X, however. If you do the exact same thing with a document open in Excel, then the next time you save it, Excel recreates a copy of the document with the old file name in the corresponding Finder location. The only way to rename an Excel document while it’s open in Excel is… to close it.

Why the inconsistency? Because it’s Microsoft…

(I don’t dare try this with PowerPoint.)
