iCal not ready for prime-time

Sad but true — some of the basic functionality of iCal is flawed, as confirmed by this MacFixIt report:

Troubleshooting iCal: Reminders forgotten if not active

Since my computer is too noisy to be left on during the night, I put it INTO “deep sleep” before I go to bed — and if a reminder is set to appear early in the morning and I haven’t been to my machine yet (i.e. it’s still in deep sleep when the reminder is supposed to appear), iCal simply forgets to tell me about the appointment. I’ve already missed a couple of medical appointments because of this! (Fortunately it was nothing too important.)

In fact, I’ve just filed a bug report about this. Because it is a bug.

In the same vein, if your computer is not in deep sleep, but just in regular sleep, and a reminder comes on when you are away from your computer, the computer wakes from sleep to display the reminder… but it never goes back to sleep after that! Hours of precious energy can thus be wasted because nobody is there to dismiss the reminder.

Wake up and smell the coffee, Apple! This is basic functionality, and it should have been fixed a long time ago. (iCal is several months old.)
