America & Iraq: Anti-French Sentiment

Apparently, some prominent people and media outlets in the US are busy dissing the French because of France’s reluctance to endorse a US-led war on Iraq. I wouldn’t know, since I never watch mainstream US TV networks or read US tabloids. But it sounds like it’s getting pretty bad in places.

There is a bit of an Anglo-Saxon tradition in this, with the British tabloid press regularly seizing opportunities to indulge in similar “journalistic” drivel.

All this, to put the following INTO context:

Stop Frying the French“, by Thane Peterson

I don’t know who Thane Peterson is and I rarely ever read BusinessWeek Online — but I’m glad he wrote this article. The problem is, of course, that it’s highly unlikely that the article will be read out aloud by Wayne Rooney during the next 60 Minutes.

Oh well.
